Research Co-op – Soybean
DuPont Pioneer has an opportunity for a Research Co-op in our Soybean Breeding area to be integral part of a full-scale commercial breeding program committed to developing soybean varieties of maturity RM 26-39 with superior yield, relevant herbicide resistance, disease, and required agronomics, disease resistance, and value-added traits to meet grower demand. The co-op starts in May 2017 and ends December 2017. Duties/Responsibilities: This Research Co-op will be involved with the daily operations at the soybean research center. Spring/summer responsibilities include: planting, data collection/entry, plot maintenance, and tissue sampling for molecular marker analyses. Supervision of temporary employees is expected. Fall responsibilities include: combine operation, note taking, and rating individual plots for various agronomic traits. Post-harvest duties include: threshing plants and assisting with seed packaging to meet off-season nursery and greenhouse deadlines. This individual will also be expected to complete a project related to soybean breeding, presenting their finding at completion of the internship. A key component of this position will be the collection of high quality data on specific traits of economic importance. The individual will be expected to travel to other locations as part of the data collection process. As part of the program, the individual will be expected to lead groups of co-workers to complete required tasks, and to conduct a research project whose results will be presented on a seminar at the end of the period.Qualifications: College Senior or recent graduate, majoring in Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Genetics, or a related field. Agricultural background is beneficial.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
Skilled with MS Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
High level of skill with written communications.
Valid driver???s license and good driving record.
Basic knowledge of corn and soybean production practices.
Superior work ethic, highly motivated, and thorough attention to detail.
Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
Experience operating agriculture and/or field equipment preferred.
