Decatur, ILThis is a full time exempt level position Archer Daniels Midland co., a world leader in agricultural processing, has immediate opening for Research Scientist position at their Global Research Center located in Decatur, Illinois.Position Summary:The Research Scientist will provide technical leadership in developing new food ingredients and ingredient systems based on starch for food and non-food industrial applications.
The successful candidate will develop project plan with manager and will lead laboratory research to accomplish project goals. The successful candidate will have knowledge of setting-up experiments in laboratory, ensuring high standards of safety. The successful candidate will lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams and will communicate effectively with the cross-functional, matrixed teams. Job Responsibilities: Design and lead laboratory experiments and research by working independently and collaboratively while utilizing internal/external resources/support services to deliver on projectsMaintain and operate laboratory equipment and instrumentations for safe operating standards. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific/statistical techniquesLead on characterization of lab prototypes using structure-function approach and data interpretationRecord research outcomes in clear and concise reports and verbal updates/presentations as neededProvide support for transferring knowledge from laboratory to pilot-scale for experimental prototype developmentProvide support for product related improvement projects in manufacturing plants and support productivity projects as appropriateUse time management skills to balance competing prioritiesEnsure safe working practice in research labs, pilot plants, and manufacturing facilities to meet or exceed safety goalsWork in a cross-functional team environment understanding the basic elements of all departments and how they interactResolve conflicts effectively to encourage teamwork, without breaking cohesion and trustWork productively and efficiently by being organized, prepared and supporting and assisting fellow team members whenever possible Position Requirements: PhD or MS in Food Chemistry, Cereal Science,
polymer or materials science, chemical engineering or related field with 0-5 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of food chemistry and food ingredients and experience in chemical, physical and enzymatic processing of food ingredients would be a plus.
