Research Scientist/Research Engineer
Position PurposeThe Research Scientist/Research Engineer position creates value for Cargill Texturizing Solutions (CTS) by supporting new product development and new process development.
Accountabilities include executing projects in the lab and pilot plant as well as supporting plant-scale trials.
The Research Scientist/Research Engineer is a key contributor on experimental efforts in PPD but also brings mechanical skills needed to be comfortable working in a pilot plant environment.Principal Accountabilities(10%) Adhere to best practices in Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Food Safety(60%) Technical Execution:Plans, executes and interprets experiments at laboratory, pilot and plant scale.Participates in all phases of product/process development, including ideation, laboratory and pilot plant development, characterization and scale-up.Performs analytical work, as needed, for research and development starch samples(15%) Infrastructure:Assist with tasks related to the upkeep of the pilot plant infrastructureHelp with startup and shut down activities before and after experimental trials(15%) Knowledge Management:

Required QualificationsEither a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or a related technical discipline that includes experimental skills, with 2 or more years of work experience in a chemistry lab or pilot plant or production environment OR a minimum of an Associates degree in relevant Scientific field (Chemistry, Food Technology) may be accepted if significant work experience (more than 10 years) were aquired in a chemistry lab, pilot plant or production environmnmentStrong safety and quality-oriented approachAbility to apply scientific knowledge to design experiments and interpret data in order to facilitate the development and scale up of new products and new processes.Mechanical inclination (to be comfortable working in a pilot plant)Computer skills for data tabulation, graphing, analysis and interpretation of resultsMultitasking abilities with strong work ethic and follow throughDemonstrated organization and writing skills (needed for lab notebook maintenance and timely/accurate technical reports)Preferred QualificationsBasic to intermediate knowledge of safety and food safety requirements for a lab/pilot plant facility of a food manufacturing companyGood problem solving skills with attention to detailGood planning, time management and proactive communication (i.e, project management skills)?Some experience in managing small capital projects (<$100k) is a plusExperience working in a lab environment and/or pilot plant and/or food productionKnowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentationExcellent oral and written communication/presentation skillsFast learner and highly motivated to take upon individual responsibilities over time
