Livestock Auctions are a vital part of the livestock industry, serving producers and assuring a fair, competitive price through the auction method of selling.Job SummaryConsult and evaluate commercial livestock marketing operations regarding risk exposures and animal handling activities. Interact with business owners, managers and staff, as well as LMA and LMIA sales staff, underwriters, and management to assess type and level of exposures present and controls needed. Determine operations ability to control exposures by gathering information through surveys, audits, loss history analysis, comparison to industry standards, and interviews. Provides training, mentoring, specialized technical advice and counsel to staff. Assist underwriting with risk selection, and ongoing account management. Essential Functions and DutiesSurvey commercial livestock marketing operations for property, liability, workers compensation, business auto, and livestock hazards and controlsObserve business operations and management practices to determine safety issues and hazardsAnalyze history of incidents and evaluate accidents to determine cause as well as consult in preventionPrepare timely written reports and correspondence of findings and recommendations for risk improvementConsult with operation regarding activities and programs to control losses and improve safetyProvide training, mentoring, advice, and counsel staff regarding regulations, hazards, and controlsConduct onsite assessments of animal handling and act as advisor regarding employee training and business policyConduct employee training and certification meetings regarding animal handling policy and correct proceduresDevelop and maintain loss control manuals and videos as well as other collateral piecesMaintain knowledge of industry through association involvement as well as regulatory codes and standards CompetenciesPeople skills, flexibility, analytical skills, self-starter, highly motivated, strong written and oral communicationAbility to operate vehicle and possess valid driver s license.Ability/willingness to travel by car or planeKnowledge and demonstration of good planning and organizational skillsAbility to keep/manage confidential information Supervisory ResponsibilityThere is no supervisory responsibility for this position. Work EnvironmentThis position has a highly varied work environment that will include personal contact with members and clients. Physical DemandsThe extensive car travel of this position requires the ability to sit for many hours at a time. Must have ability to safely maneuver livestock handling areas and stairs with occasional moderate lifting required. Position Type and Expected Work HoursThis is a full-time position. Due to extensive travel, this employee has great flexibility in hours spent in the office, but the employee must be available during the hours of 8 AM to 5 PM. TravelThis employee travels extensively by automobile and/or airplane.
