Safety Health and Environmental Specialist
The DuPont New Century site is a Nutrition & Health facility. There are hazardous processes on the site which are governed by OSHA, EPA, and KS State regulations. This position ultimately provides leadership and guidance to help assure Site compliance with applicable Site, Corporate, State and Federal Fire Safety, Emergency Response, Environmental, and Safety related regulations/requirements. Job Description: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Safety Resource for a Business Unit/Site. OSHA Compliance: Have knowledge and application of OSHA regulations as they pertain to workplace safety as well as Emergency Response (Hazwoper). Emergency Response: Direct responsibility for coordinating site emergency response using an incident command system. Have knowledge of applicable regulations, codes (NFPA), and standards (OSHA) as they relate to the development of: Emergency Action Plans, Training Programs, Emergency PPE, Capability Assessments, Response Equipment, Drills, and Medical Screening. Act as the site PSM Element Leader for Emergency Response.Life Safety: Have knowledge and application of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code requirements. Topics include: Occupancy Identification, Adequate Exits (number, location, and travel distances), Emergency Lighting, Exit Sign, and Separation of Hazards.Employee Safety: Sponsor site Employee Safety Team and work with Site SHE Leader, Plant Manager, and Operations Leadership to establish a culture where all employees are Committed to Zero. Develop tools to assist all employees in this journey. Be a strong presence on the shop floor to interact regularly with employees, provide direction, recognize outstanding contributions, and correct unsafe behaviors and conditions in a timely and respectful wayInspection, testing & maintenance of fire protection equipment: Direct responsibility and oversight of contractors that are providing the test, inspection, and maintenance program for fire protection systems, fire extinguishers, and fire doors & walls Environmental: Direct responsibility for managing the site ISO 14001 environmental management system and for completing inspections and reports for federal agencies regarding management of waste, wastewater pre-treatment, environmental emissions, and systems to reduce environmental footprint.Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:Act as primary contact for Unit and Site Safety questions,Active involvement in injury and illness case management. Maintain injury and illness logs,Participation in incident investigations with knowledge of RCFA methodology,Facilitating review and development of site safety procedures and practices,Training and auditing of line organization regarding site SHE procedures,Training/new employee orientation on SHE proceduresRoutine field auditing and visibility for interactions, Coordination of 1st and 2nd party audits, Preparation and analysis of multiple SHE metrics,Establish and maintain an effective Emergency Response system that complies with NFPA and OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.120).Process Safety Management element leader for Emergency ResponseExpert site resource for fire protection and emergency code questions, standards/code interpretation and support for site compliance;Supporting the development and application of consistent fire protection, emergency response and safety processes, procedures, and practices across the New Century site. Develop and maintain Emergency Procedures and fire pre-plans;Plan, lead and critique ERT drills and training on equipment and procedures; Represent expert knowledge of sprinkler systems and interface with a Contract Vendor in maintenance and/or inspections;Interface with the mutual aid units, establish response protocols, and coordinate drills, Conduct 1st party fire code audits to ensure ongoing compliance with appropriate fire codes;Maintains site environmental management system. Develops annual improvement objectives. Audits against standards. Completes required environmental audits, inspections, and reports. Qualifications:Basic Qualifications:BS in Fire Safety, Safety or other related discipline or comparable industrial experience in a SHE leadership positionPrevious industrial experience is highly desired (2+ years) Preferred Qualifications:2+ years of DuPont experience or equivalent external work in safety, emergency response and/or environmental. Sound technical and regulatory based fire safety knowledge, including knowledge of regulations, laws, and standards; includes OSHA regulations Knowledge of highly hazardous chemicals and processes;Ability to anticipate, plan, develop, implement, audit and improve sustainable systems and processes;Self-motivated with strong ability to multi-task and learn rapidly;Ability to network and work cross-functionally with Operations, Technology, Maintenance, and Training organizations;Planning and organizational skills to meet multipleApply for this job.
