Position Objective and Responsibilities Job Title: Safety Manager Position ObjectiveThe Safety Manager will lead the implementation of a prevention-focused environmental, health, safety, and security program. The position positively impacts EHS culture through sustained, continuous improvements. Uphold the commitment to Zero OSHA recordable injuries, process safety events (Tier 1 & 2) and Notice of Violations. Position ResponsibilitiesThe Safety Manager will plan, design, implement and evaluate health and safety management programs and processes to promote a safe work environment. Ensure compliance with all appropriate federal and state laws, regulations and standards within the Farmers Ranchers Cooperative. This position is the primary point of contact for all safety-related issues; maintains government and regulatory compliance; and establishes specific strategies that support Safety, Health and Environmental objectives including security and crisis preparedness. Compliance/Safety – Compliance/Safety involves coordinating safety programs, developing safety procedures, assessing safety equipment and regulations, developing and maintaining records, and representing the co-op. Coordinate safety programsCoordinate the presentation of safety training programs to all employeesServe as chairman of the safety committee and prepare/conduct quarterly safety committee meetings Develop safety proceduresWork with department managers and employees to develop safety procedures for operations Assess safety equipmentAssist in developing recommendations for safety equipment needs and assist in assessing the environmental soundness of new facility and equipment purchases Assess safety regulationsKeep up-to-date and audit internal safety practices to ensure compliance regulations and recommend changes where necessary, working with Compliance Advisory ServicesAssure Accuracy and timeliness of auditing and implementation of policy/procedure Develop and maintain recordsDevelop and maintain records to comply with environmental and other regulations and update as necessaryMaintain safety manuals, records, licenses and other required documents at the main office and all branch locations Represent the cooperativeRepresent the cooperative in dealings with government safety and environmental agenciesWork closely with government agents to ensure proper compliance with laws and regulations Other Duties – The Safety Manager will perform other duties as assigned by management and will enforce and uphold the cooperative credit policy. Perform other duties as assigned by managementPerform duties as requested by management Enforce and uphold the cooperative credit policyMake credit terms known to all employees and customersDo not charge to customers on CODDo not extend credit to customers who have not been approved by the credit managerDo not authorize customer charges that exceed set credit limitsKeep all personal accounts current Knowledge, Skills & Working ConditionsHigh school education or equivalent is requiredBachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Sciences, or closely related field preferred.Member of a nationally recognized safety organization or certified safety professional preferred.Knowledge of Safety/Compliance regulations.3-5 years of health and safety experience preferred.Ability to travel as needed to support organizational safety needs.Communications skills will be necessary to work with others in a team setting. This will include writing skills, giving presentations and teaching others on various topics.The ability to meet deadlines is essential.A physical ability to stand and walk. This includes occasional times of lifting and carrying items up to 25/30 pounds. It also includes the ability to climb ladders and physically move about all the cooperative’s locations.
