Sales Tax Consultant

Position PurposeThe Global Tax & Customs function employs approximately 250 professionals. The function is headquartered in Wayzata, Minnesota. Sixty U.S. tax professionals work at the headquarter offices. Other tax professionals are located throughout the world with principal offices in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Winnipeg, London, Amsterdam and Singapore. The Global Tax & Customs function has an opening for a Sales Tax Consultant within the U.S.-based Indirect Tax Group. The US Indirect Tax Group is currently comprised of 9 tax professionals. It serves as the Center of Expertise for US property, excise/motor fuel and sales/use taxes. The group generally handles and/or governs all aspects of these tax types, including tax determination, reporting, audit and planning activities. This group is also responsible for the successful deployment of OneSource Indirect tax to all US businesses, a global tax determination tool that integrates with SAP. The Sales Tax Consultant role is primarily responsible for assisting the US Sales Tax Advisor in advising the business regarding the application of sales tax to transactions; refund claim reviews; tax credit and incentives and due diligence support. The Sales Tax Consultant will also assist with OneSource Indirect Tax implementations, from both a deployment and maintenance perspective.Principal Accountabilities 75% US Sales Tax Advisory Activities Assist the US Sales Tax Advisor in providing advice on the application of US sales/use taxes to transactions. Research tax technical issues; identify refund opportunities; review sales/use tax refund claims; advise the business regarding exemption certificate acceptance and usage; assist with special projects (e.g., multi-state research into specific matters); provide training to the business; provide due diligence support; work with sales/use tax compliance to resolve any tax technical questions. 20% OneSource Indirect Tax deployment & maintenance Work with Business Units deploying SAP/OneSource to ensure successful transition from legacy tax calculation procedures to OneSource Indirect automated tax calculation. Tasks include data validation/conversion; testing; training; and post-deployment transaction/system monitoring. 5% Other activities as directedSkills:Required Bachelor s degree in Accounting or Finance3+ years of demonstrated sales/use tax technical experience, including research, analysis, tax determination, tax reporting and planning/risk mitigationDemonstrated ability to integrate and engage with the business Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skills with ability to prioritize many tasks Self-starter who is willing and able to learn new technology and processesPreferredMinimum of 2 years working in a Big 4 public accounting firmJDE; SAP; OneSource proficiency Certified Public Accountant designationIPT Certification for Sales/Use TaxationMBT or MBA
