Position Summary:This position is in the Fermentation Process Development and Production Support Group, within the Research division, of Archer Daniels Midland Company. The group is focused on developing novel fermentation processes, products and scale-up, as well as, optimization and troubleshooting of current fermentation processes. The research work covers multiple areas, including bacterial and fungal fermentations, aerobic and anaerobic processes, traditional stirred tank fermentations and new engineering concepts applied to fermentation processes. The successful candidate will be a leader in the developing new products through fermentation and will use an innovative approach to optimizing existing processes.
Job Requirements: Master?s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology or related field, with 1- 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor?s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology or related field, with 5 years of relevant experienceKnowledge of microbial metabolism and physiology and the ability to apply this knowledge to development of new fermentation systems Experience in bench top fermenter operationsKnowledge of fermentation principles, medium development, process design, mass balance and scale upMust be able to lift 50lbs Desired experience or characteristics: Self-motivated; ambitious but deliberatePositive attitudeGood communication skillsStatistical experimental designExperience in an industrial fermentation environment, including downstream processingProject team membership and project team management Safety conscious
Primary Responsibilities: Operate 7.5 Liter bench top fermenters to screen strains, optimize media or fermentation conditions, and develop new products
Tear down, clean and perform maintenance on the bench top fermenters and ancillary equipmentRecord and analyze data with accuracy and efficiencyDeliver weekly progress reports. Write detailed monthly project reports Design programs to automate fermentation operationsFormulate low cost/high performance growth mediaOptimize growth and production conditions for new and existing microbial strains Develop fermentation protocols and create corresponding SOPsApply for this job.
