Wyandotte, MIWhere the Chemistry HappensWe are seeking a professional like you for our Scientist position opening in Mass Spectrometry at BASF Corporation Analytics North America labs at Wyandotte Michigan. In this role, you will have the opportunity to exercise your in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of qualitative identification and quantitation of volatile organic chemicals or polymers via multiple techniques including Thermo Desorption, Pyrolysis GC/MS, SPME headspace GC/MS, etc. Additionally, you will utilize your experience conducting laboratory operations under industry-standard safety guidelines.Formula for Success Leveraging your Advanced higher education in Analytical Chemistry or a related scientific field combined with your extensive training and hands-on experience in structure elucidation, characterization and quantitative analysis of volatile organics and polymers, you will provide effective analytical support to various business units within BASF using multiple techniques – Thermo Desorption or Pyrolysis GC/MS, SPME, Headspace GC, HPLC/MS, etc., for qualitative identification of unknowns and quantitative analytical method development of VOCs.Successfully engaging across the organization, you will work closely with Business Unit personnel and Analytical staff to determine appropriate methodologies to quantify and/or characterize volatile organics or polymers composition for a wide range of project areas including new product development, competitive analyses, trace analysis for production and product support, customer/technical service and regulatory compliance projects. Utilizing your experience in the operation and interpretation of pyrolysis, thermo-desorption, and SPME headspace GC/MS, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of various GC/MS and GC instruments. Your ability to manage multiple projects with various priorities and deliver results in a timely fashion will be essential as you will have the opportunity to act as Project Leader for large projects and serve as Analytical Coordinator for select Business Units.Your excellent written communication skills will serve you well as you create analytical reports. In some cases, analytical reports should have the quality necessary for governmental filing purposes (FDA, EPA, EFSA).
