Scientist III- Decatur, IL Fermentation Development and Bioprocess SupportThis is an exempt, full time positionJob Description:This position is in the Bioprocess and Fermentation Group within the Biotechnology division of Archer Daniels Midland Company?s Research Center. The group is focused on the development and scale-up of new fermentation processes and products, as well as continual improvement of current processes. The research work spans a variety of microorganisms and approaches including bacterial and fungal fermentations, aerobic and anaerobic processes, traditional stirred tank fermentations, and new engineering concepts in fermentation. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a team of fermentation scientists and technicians who will participate in the development of new products through fermentation and will use an innovative approach to optimizing existing processes.
A strong background in engineering with industrial fermentation experience is a plus.
Requirements: Master?s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology or related field with 5+
years of relevant experience or Bachelor?s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology or related field, with 10+ years of relevant experienceWorking understanding of microbial metabolism and physiology and examples of its application to the development and commercialization of fermentation processes Experience in bench top fermenter operations up to 100 L scaleApplication of fermentation principles, medium development, process design, mass balance as applied for scale-up to a commercial process. 5-10 years? experience in an industrial fermentation environment, including downstream processingGood written and oral communication skillsMust be able to lift 50lbsSafety conscious Primary Responsibilities: Supervise and operate pilot scale fermenters to screen strains, optimize media or fermentation conditions, and develop new products
Lead efforts in plant support and troubleshooting.
Record and analyze data with accuracy and efficiencyDeliver weekly progress reports.
