Wyandotte, MI Where the Chemistry Happens Advanced Materials & Systems Research is the BASF global researchplatform supporting operating units and businesses with discovery anddevelopment of new materials and processes required from markets and customers.It is part of the global competency center for research in the field ofstructural materials and systems based on thermoplastics and duromers. OurScientists create chemistry and processes for innovative materials, compositesand systems based on polycondensation and polyaddition chemistry, as well asthermoset chemistry. Our main partner is the Performance Materials (PM)business unit focusing on the Transportation, Construction, and Consumerindustry segments. As a global research unit, RAP has research activities established inAsia (Shanghai), North America (Wyandotte, Budd Lake) and Europe (Ludwigshafen,Lemf?rde). The work conducted by the polymer processing research unit supportsboth customer-driven growth, as well as Operational Excellence withinBASF units producing thermoplastic and thermoset products. We are seeking a professional like you to carry out the conception,planning and execution of (sub-) projects in the field of thermoplasticpolymers and composite processing. This position offers the opportunity to workwith various technologies on thermoplastic materials and thermosetting systemsin laboratory, pilot and production scale within BASF and development partners.You will provide a seamless transition of results from laboratory scale toeventual production. You will also cooperate with product development teams, aswell as university collaborations.Formula for Success Leveraging your PhD in Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or PlasticsTechnology, you will propose, plan and execute challenging and cutting-edgeR&D projects/topics in the field of polymer & composite processing.Demonstratingyour experience in extrusion and compounding technology, including up- anddown-stream technologies (twin screw extruder, single screw extruder, multiscrew extruder, kneader, feeding, granulation, etc.), polymer processingtechnologies (injection molding, sheet extrusion, etc.), polymer materialscience, and thermosetting material systems processes (RTM, infusion,pultrusion, SMC, LFT), you will contribute to product development projects withappropriate process design and processing parameter sets.As a subjectmatter expert, you will serve as a member of the global material processingcompetence community. Additionally, youwill establish an outside reputation as a competent professional in the area ofpolymer & composite processing.Identify opportunitiesfor new technologies and translate them into project proposalsSuccessfullyengaging across the organization with excellent project management skills, youwill actively drive knowledge transfer from other regions to North America andexecute global projects.Your ?can do?attitude will be essential as you identify new or improved technologies and evaluateand implement them if reasonable.Working well individuallywith minimal supervision, as well as in a team setting, you will specify,install and start-up new equipment as needed to support new product/processdevelopment.Your solid communicationskills will serve you well as you communicate ideas, results andrecommendations by means of lab reports and presentations.Your strongability to network with others will be a valued asset as you maintain aprofessional presence in BASF's research community through active publications,presentations and fostering University relationships.Create Your Own Chemistry: What We Offer You Adding value to our customers begins with addingvalue to you.
