Global Biologics Research designs and develops novel biological products to address economically impactful diseases in livestock and companion animals. The successful applicant is expected to work hands-on while providing strong technical support to the project teams composed of colleagues working across multiple disciplines. To be successful the candidate will have strong knowledge in virology, molecular biology, gene and protein expression, development of in vitro and in vivo assays. Knowledge of diseases relevant to cattle is a plus, as well as understanding of host-pathogen interaction, genomic/transcriptomic analyses, and genetic manipulation of viruses and/or bacteria. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. The position is in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES* Develop and perform in vitro viral and molecular assays.* Drive innovation and continuous improvements in product research and development.* Collaborate with colleagues in VMRD, Global Manufacturing Supply and Commercial Development and Life Cycle Innovation to advance R&D projects.* Responsible to provide regular updates in timely manner to project teams and management.* Ensure that studies are conducted in compliance with applicable requirements, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), corporate policies, and regulatory requirements and guidelines (e.g., Good Clinical Practice and Good Laboratory Practice).* Mentor other scientists.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMinimum* PhD or equivalent work experience in biological sciences, preferably virology, molecular/cellular biology and biotechnology.* Experience in virology in general with an emphasis on influenza virus, baculovirus, and vector development.* Broad experience in molecular biology such as RNA/DNA techniques, PCR, reverse genetics, cloning, gene and protein expression, Western Blots, and ELISA.* Experience in cell culture techniques.* Experience in directing own scientific research, identifying new targets and leading projects.* Experience in establishing in vitro assays (cellular, molecular and immuno-assays) and in vivo animal models.* Able to prioritize work and work efficiently with a minimum of supervision.* Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.* Computer skills: Microsoft (word, excel, power point, outlook, project), Mindjet.Preferred* Basic knowledge in biochemistry and immunology is an upside.Full time/Regular/ColleagueApply for this job.
