In addition, Zoetis will never ask candidates to make any type of personal financial investment related to gaining employment with Zoetis.The Bioprocess Development group in Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development is seeking a talented bioprocess scientist or engineer to join our efforts in scale up of bioprocesses for manufacture of novel protein therapeutics and vaccines intended for veterinary medicine applications. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience in the development and scale up of a range of unit operations for manufacture of biotechnology-derived medicines including fermentation, cell culture, membrane processing, and protein purification by chromatographic techniques. The successful candidate will work with minimal supervision in carrying out their assigned tasks in scaling up a range of unit operations for manufacture of recombinant proteins and vaccine antigens within the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). This job requires an independent thinker with a demonstrated ability to carry out assigned tasks and collaborate effectively with other team members. Work will be performed in an independent manner with periodic review against agreed objectives. Having a team-oriented approach and excellent communication skills are essential. The duties of this role include: Utilization of engineering and biological manufacturing science to demonstrate and scale up processes from the bench to pilot scale for manufacture of regulated vaccines and biotherapeutic proteins.Support the production of vaccine antigens and biotherapeutic proteins in a Zoetis GMP pilot laboratory. Scaled up processes will be conducted to prepare Pre-Licensing Serials (PLS) and VICH batches (Veterinary International Conference on Harmonization) for use in clinical and stability studies. Conduct pilot scale experiments in accordance with GMP utilizing roller bottles, fermentation, and cell culture techniques in both fixed and single-use cultivation systems. Pilot scale harvest and purification of antigens and proteins using a combination of centrifugation, membrane filtration, and chromatography processes. The scope of contribution includes ownership of all tasks pertaining to equipment specification, qualification, operation, and maintenance within a GMP environment. Contribute to the ongoing operation of the GMP facility by carrying out duties in the realm of cleaning, maintenance, and upgrading of both the laboratory areas and supporting utility systems (clean water, steam, heating, ventilation and air conditioning). Develop process documentation, operating procedures, bills of materials, and protocols required for process transfer and validation. Author protocols, reports, and technology transfer documents that will support technology transfer within the company and to support regulatory filings for new product registrations. Maintain project documentation and equipment records in accord with Standard Operating Procedures. Represent the pilot function on interdisciplinary project teams and serve as a liaison between product development teams and manufacturing functions. Contribute at the technical level to the direction of the team and provide information to support decision making in the realm of process scale up and transfer. Strive for continuous improvement by streamlining existing workflows to shorten timeframes or increase the throughput of work performed by the function. Multi-task by working on several projects including viral, bacterial, and recombinant protein production. Education and ExperienceBSc or MSc in Microbiology, Biotechnology, chemical or biochemical engineering, or a related discipline. The successful candidate would be expected to have >5 years of industry experience in the field. Demonstrated track record as an independent researcher working in the field of manufacturing science. Technical Skills and Other RequirementsDemonstrated knowledge in the scientific disciplines that support pilot scale development of unit operations for manufacture of biotechnology-derived products.Working knowledge of the engineering principles for bioprocess fitting and scale up.Demonstrated practical experience in one or more of the technologies for biological manufacturing including: fermentation, cell culture, tangential and normal flow membrane filtration and chromatography.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated record of working in a team environment with highly developed interpersonal relationship skills.A willingness to work on a flexible schedule in the task to monitor experiments and equipment including after-hours work.An ability to engage in work of a physical nature, as encountered in pilot scale laboratory environments.Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for veterinary medicines is desirable.Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems that support GMP operation of pilot scale unit operations will be well regarded.Apply for this job.
