This position is responsible for cross functional development in high level concept development, mechanical, electrical, and controls design, detailed development and implementation of automated vaccination equipment, sub-systems and components for bio-devices engineering. The colleague will be the primary interface with critical suppliers and will be responsible for developing Supplier Technical Aptitude in the areas of Supplier Quality Assurance and stable supply of purchased components. The colleague is expected to work as part of a cross-functional team and act as the technical liaison during the supplier development efforts for New Product Introductions (NPI). POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES The Sr. Engineer, Supplier Development Engineer – Bio Devices has a variety of responsibilities, including: Create collaborative engineering development communication between Zoetis Engineering and critical supplier technical representatives, for the facilitation of proper supplied part development and stability. Cross functionally participate in the design and development of mechanical systems and mechanisms including fluid, pneumatic and drive systems, while understanding the interface to electrical control systems and underlying biological process needs, especially as it relates to supplied components. Collaboratively implement and utilize a proper Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) methodology for the design and product engineering teams to utilize throughout the product life cycle phases. Provide engineering liaison efforts for multiple supplier projects, including new components from design concept to full manufacturing introduction.
Coordinate problem solving and technical support, including design updates of equipment, process development and related documentation.
Must possess root cause analysis skills and process understanding to efficiently analyze various manufacturing issues of supplied parts and resolve them in a timely manner, with appropriate Zoetis engineers. Extensive interaction with suppliers in design, analysis and other technical liaison requirements.
Participate in cross functional design meetings, collaborative discussions, and builds of prototypes by to insure supplied parts and product meets specifications, timelines and budget.
Actively participates in cost reduction initiatives and minimization of waste.
Initiates analysis of new suppliers to determine capability of SQA compliance and implementation. Proficiency in detailing drawings for SQA requirements, BOM”s and release documents for the above design activities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or a minimum of 10 – 15 years demonstrated experience in engineering development, supply chain, supplier quality and manufacturing operations in an electro-mechanical machinery environment. Experience working with injection molded components, metal machine components, plastic machine components, sheet metal fabrication and metal welding components, electrical cableling assemblies, PCBA assemblies and electrical motors. 10 years experience working with suppliers from an engineering, technical perspective on New Product Introduction (NPI). TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS Demonstrated proficiency/experience in multidiscipline engineering for industrial equipment or equivalent. Demonstrated experience/understanding with Solidworks 3d Engineering Design Software for layout, analysis and detail design activities. Demonstrated experience/understanding of quality assurance methodologies, statistics relating to manufacturing a precision engineered device (i.e. APQP, DMIAC, Lean Six Sigma..etc.) Demonstrated proficiency with custom engineered product manufacturing processes, as it relates to metrics/conformance of product meeting design intent. Experience and proficiency in supplier negotiation and in maturing suppliers to achieve high quality product.
Demonstrated experience in critical thinking and problem solving skills, planning and organizing, decision-making Excellent communication skills, influencing and leading, facilitation and team work capabilities.PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Candidate will work mostly at the Durham site either in an office environment or a development lab environment. Frequent travel to supplier locations will be required during periods of new product development and to resolve technical supplier issues.
