Where the Chemistry Happens? SeniorLab Technician ? Beachwood, OH (1901806) Thisposition will be located at the Research Center in Beachwood, OH. Thesuccessful candidate will operate laboratory and pilot equipment and conductexperiments through routine and non-routine procedures for the support ofresearch, development, and production activities and ensure that all equipmentis in safe working order. This positionis expected to prepare a large variety of sample materials from variousBusiness Units within BASF that have processes involving solid materials suchas Precipitation/crystallization, Filtration, Drying, Calcination, Mixing,Agglomeration, Coating, Milling and others. The individual should becomfortable with analytical and solid-state chemistry, engineering principles,and in setting up, running and maintaining both lab and pilot scale equipment.The individual should display creative thinking and be able to provide detailedobservation of experimental effects. The job requires the employee to worksafely with a variety of chemicals with known hazard levels. Responsibilities: Operatea wide variety of laboratory and pilot scale equipment; assemble/construct newequipment, prepare or review job safety analyses and operating instructions.Preciseand accurate preparation of solid and/or solid liquid mixtures according tostoichiometric requirements.Analyzesamples for physical and chemical characteristics and provide summary tomanager using Particle Size Analyzer, BET Surface Area, Titrations, etc.;generates data which is reliable from which correct conclusions andrecommendations can be made.Recordsand communicates testing results.Assistsin the proper training and development of laboratory technicians to ensurecompliance with health, safety and environmental regulations and standards.Keepaccurate, current records and logs; provide clearly written experimentalobservations and results for technical reports; provide data and documentationrequired for technical documents and patents.Resolvesminor problems, adapting non-conforming samples to routine preparation andproceduresResponsiblefor inventory management and preparation of shipping documents for sampleshipments.Submissionof samples for analytical testing and entering reported analytical results intoproper databaseParticipatein a functional team activity (safety, housekeeping, emergency responder,etc.); complete daily housekeeping of work area including proper storage andmanagement of sample inventory.Entersand follows-up on maintenance and repair work orders of pilot equipment andinstrumentation to ensure that all equipment and instrumentation are in safeworking orderKeepsinventory of raw materials and products and notifies the supervisor when rawmaterials are short suppliedIdentifiesany hazards and participates in EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) programs,reporting incidents and near misses. Performsnecessary mathematical calculations with results frequently requiringadditional interpretationMustbe physically able to lift 55 lbs. and be willing to work with potential toxicand hazardous materialsBasicunderstanding and strong personal focus on laboratory safety protocolsWillhandle multiple projects in a technical environment CreateYour Own Chemistry: What We Offer You? Basic Qualifications: HighSchool Diploma or GED3years laboratory experience; OR Associates degree in Chemistry, ChemicalEngineering, or related science with 2 years laboratory experience; OR BS inChemistry/Material Science/Chemical Engineering with no experience1year of experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) Preferred Qualifications: Excellentlaboratory skills, including detailed record keeping and knowledge of safehandling of chemicals and equipment.
