Senior Project Manager – Grain

Founded in 1818, the company is headquartered in White Plains, New York.Position Summary:The Senior Project Manager for Grain will lead the safe design and construction of both Greenfield and existing Grain facility projects for Bunge North America (BNA). The design and construction must align with strategic BNA initiatives, and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local code requirements in Canada and the United States. Associated work will include management of in-house design in concert with engineering contractors for the successful completion of projects, utilizing a stage-gated approach. Incumbent will be responsible for managing all categories of projects, including: Project Execution, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Risk, Business and Commercial, Information Management, Health-Safety-Environment, Quality, Staffing, and Operations.
Qualified candidates will coordinate with other corporate and Industrial Management (IM) entities in the aforementioned categories to manage a capital program that could exceed $50 M. Incumbent will interface with senior level stakeholders on a regular basis. Candidate will provide project management expertise with a general business acumen perspective to the business units while managing stakeholders across a diverse interface map.Essential Functions:Prepare and/or oversee the development of design and feasibility studies for projects at BNA or greenfield facilities using a steadfast stage-gated project management approachDevelop and review project cost estimates and direct modifications as appropriate and requiredPrepare and/or review budgets for expenditures on outside consulting engineers and regularly review the work of consultants with direct reports, typically project managersReview equipment specification recommendations and prepare or review construction bid packagesPrepare and/or review and monitor controls on scheduling and project costsAssist Project Managers in problem solving and trouble-shooting as requested by BNA facilities and IM senior managementPrepare and/or assemble periodic project reports and engineering activities summaries for the project management group under his/her span of controlWork with the business units to evaluate, plan and develop capital expenditure projectsEnsure capital and expense projects are aligned with business unit objectives and completed safely within scope, schedule and budgetManage project submission process to include evaluation of projects, review of proposals and advise on project feasibilityDirectly or indirectly supervise staff of Project Managers, Project Engineers and Construction Managers including assignment of work, approval of expenses, authorization for travel, goal setting, performance management etc.Assign engineering team and resources to projects to optimize resources and ensure required expertiseDevelop and maximize team member capabilities by fostering an environment that identifies talent, provides ongoing coaching and feedback and creates opportunities for growth and developmentProvide assistance to plant locations in identifying and developing projects resulting in added profit or cost savingsModel and cascade behaviors supporting BNA capabilities (Operational Excellence, People Management, Business Intelligence, Customer Satisfaction, Value Chain Integration and Risk Management).Communicate and model good business practices that support the companys core values.Required Education/Skills/Experience:Bachelors degree in Engineering required; Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Agricultural related engineering preferred.Masters degree or MBA a plus.A combination of experience as outlined below in any of the following sectors is required: Oilseeds Processing, Agriculture, Biofuels, Bio-Products, Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, or Specialty Chemicals. Some agricultural processing experience is required.Project Management: Candidate must have experience developing Project Charters and Project Execution Plans for projects, and then executing against them in a stage gated project management model. Minimum 10 years of combined project management and construction experience required, including participating in multiple projects greater than $25 M TIC.Engineering: Candidate shall have minimum 5 years of experience managing engineering across multiple disciplines.Procurement: Candidate will be required to manage procurement staff throughout the project life cycle, from initial estimates through tender and final award. Familiarity with contract administration/review experience is essential.Project Controls: Candidate shall demonstrate ability to provide oversight in Scope, Cost, and Schedule control on all assigned projects.Risk: Candidate should have experience analyzing project risks and managing risk throughout the project. Formal training in risk management is a plus.Business and Commercial: Candidate must have experience working with commercial and business development teams to develop financial models for projects. Front end project development and appraisal experience required.Information Management: Candidate should have project experience with client portal/document management systems and/or collaboration application software.Health-Safety-Environment: Candidate shall have minimum 10 years of experience managing these key project categories directly or indirectly on projects. Asset-based experience and knowledge in NFPA 61 is a plus.Quality: Candidate must demonstrate a keen understanding of the intricacies of the Engineering and Procurement workflow on major projects, and some experience with Quality audits of such is preferred.Project Staffing: Candidate must have experience designing organizational charts for projects, and demonstrate knowledge of required staffing in a stage gated major project approach.Operations: Candidate shall have minimum 5 years of experience working on an owners team at an operating asset.PMP certification preferred, P.E. registration is a plus5 plus years of experience directly managing others, including plant or multi-plant operationsDemonstrated leadership skills including building and motivating teamsDemonstrated proficiency with applicable computer software packagesExceptional verbal, written, listening and presentation communication skillsStrong work ethic with excellent interpersonal skillsSchedule:Full-time position, typically 40-50 hours a week, but additional hours required as dictated by demands of the businessApproximately 25-50% travel, sometimes with short notice and extended stays to BNA facilities in the U.S., Canada and MexicoBunge is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
