Senior Research Associate
Job PurposeThe Senior Research Associate (SRA) will coordinate day to day field research operations for all Integrated Product Characterization and Development-Maize Component Characterization (IPCD-MCC) research projects at the Windfall, IN DuPont Pioneer research center. The SRA will be expected to execute field experiments at multiple locations, collect and manage data, and analyze results for the characterization and advancement of transgenic traits for maize and soybean, with a focus on insect control traits. The IPCD-MCC research group works cross-functionally in the development and commercialization of agronomic traits, insect control, herbicide tolerance traits, crop biologicals and seed treatments, and other crop protection technologies. Duties/Responsibilities1. The Senior Research Associate will coordinate execution of IPCD field research protocols across multiple locations at the Windfall, IN Research Center. The SRA will execute day to day activities to insure high quality data collection from field trials designed to characterize the efficacy and agronomics of lead pipeline or licensed pre-commercial transgenic insect control traits (key targets Lepidoptera and Coleoptera pests), as well as transgenic events for agronomic traits. Other project areas include efficacy, crop safety and yield impact of novel herbicide, seed treatments and biologicals systems. The SRA will serve as a Regulatory Key Contact, leading compliance activities for regulated transgenic research at the Windfall, IN Research Center. 2. Conduct experiments to completion, according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, the knowledge of general agronomic practices, herbicide application and evaluation procedures, crop scouting, implementation of new technologies, computer skills, and skills in experimental design and analysis. Use Pioneer proprietary software for initiation, mapping, tracking and analysis of experiments, and communicate data and information as appropriate to all managers of IPCD experiments. 3. Participates on cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams within DuPont Pioneer charged with the planning, management and execution of advancement/development plans for pre-commercial transgenic events for insect control in maize. 4. Provides support for successful product development at the Windfall, IN Research Center, contributing as available to the RCOF team. The SRA will contribute to Research Center activities and communicate with other team members to insure the success of all research programs at that center. 5. Responsible for continuously updating his/her own scientific/agronomic background in research areas relevant to transgenic trait and seed-applied technology characterization and development. 6. Hire, orient and supervise employees, implementing and monitoring safe working practices. *LI-AB1Qualifications:Problem Solving1. This SRA will often be faced with the need to prioritize field research activities based on available resources, weather windows and plant/insect development stages. 2. Have the ability to modify plans or find alternative solutions on very short notice when unforeseen circumstances arise, often from remote locations. Decision Making1. The SRA will decide how best to utilize technical support to efficiently collect discriminating data on traits of interest in ag trait, insect trait, herbicide trait, seed treatment/biologicals studies, as well as in departmental breeding studies. 2. Decisions regarding training of support staff are critical towards maintenance of quality control in data collection practices. Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Experience1. M.S. in agriculture with 3-8 years of field efficacy and/or yield trial experience preferred.
