Senior Safety Specialist
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Country Operations group. We are looking for a Senior Safety Specialist to leads efforts in ensuring a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, be able to influence change and be a self-starter. You will:Develop, implement and champion local safety policies and programs in alignment with Country Operations strategy to provide a visible leadership presence in all work areas.Drive awareness and accountability to influence others toward the improvement of operational processes to build a strong and sustainable safety culture.Lead the safety committee and create and customize safety trainings regarding CHS policies and procedures, federal regulations and proper use of equipment.Train all new hires, conduct monthly safety meetings as well as annual refresher training for employees and keep records of the meetings and trainings. Perform regular safety audits on facilities, machinery, products and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and environmental concerns as well as ensure company and regulatory compliance. Maintain and audit all DOT and safety related records for completion to ensure compliance regulations are met. Act as liaison with local, state and federal inspectors during inspections and then develop and implement strategies to resolve any issues identified. Ensure timely reporting of accidents, near-miss incidents and other occupational injuries in order to investigate, determine causes and implement preventive measures. Conduct variance and quality assurance investigations when applicable.Coordinate with management on facility improvement projects by researching requirements, providing options, obtaining proposals, evaluating safety and compliance issues and recommending vendors.Supervise, review, coach and train assigned safety team.Travel up to 30% of the time.Cultivate and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. Basic Qualifications: (required)Bachelor?s degree in Safety Management, Business Administration or related field (additional years of experience may offset degree requirement)4 plus years of experience in Safety, Environmental, Regulatory, and/or Ag BusinessKnowledge of occupational safety and heal rules and regulations (OSHA)Knowledge of NFPA 58 and related propane regulationsKnowledge of National Propane Gas Association CETP training programsAbility to work in dusty conditions, changing temperatures, and climb laddersAbility to travel up to 30% of the timePreferred Qualifications: (desired)Certifications with Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Professional organization membership with GEAPS, ASSE, National Safety Council or Institute of Hazardous Material Management.Experience in grain, feed, agronomy, retail or other Ag Business areas.Supervisory experience.Apply for this job.
