Senior Scientist Culture Development, Fermented Dairy Products
Come join our team!Theincumbent will be a member of the Madison-based R&D group, specifically theCulture Development team within the Live Culture Inoculants group.. Conduct basic and product development research on microbial cultures and foodingredients for the fermented food industry. Application of microbiological and molecular biological approachestowards a greater understanding for microbial interactions and processes infood fermentations. This position willwork most closely within the local and global Culture Development R&D teamand cross-functionally with technical teams involved on customer applicationsand manufacturing. The individual isexpected to be able to function both independently and within a project teamenvironment by providing the technical expertise for the research anddevelopment of new products, methods, processes and basic knowledge in supportof business directives. ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Identify,assess and develop new scientific concepts and/or technologies to providesolutions to identified problems.- Managesscientific, technical, or information projects, coordinating with otherprofessionals and support personnel to accomplish objectives.- Independentlyconduct experimental work as defined by project objectives.- Ensurecontinuing project activity by coordinating the resources, supplies, equipmentand priority for each project.- Ensure thatexperimental results are routinely recorded in a lab notebook. Updated writtenand/or oral reports to potential customers and to management and upon thecompletion of the project.- Keep up todate on new trends, technical developments and skills by monitoring thescientific and trade literature, competitors??? activities, new methods andprocesses for food ingredients in associated areas though continuing educationand/or technical seminars.- RepresentR&D as a scientific expert and resource for internal and external customers,conducting training presentations, answering technical questions.- Ensure thatwork areas are kept clean and meet GMP guidelines.- Regularattendance is an essential function of this position.- Compliancewith applicable company policies concerning maintaining a drug free work placeis required.Qualifications:Trained in Microbiology,Food Science, or related field with an emphasis in microbial physiology,molecular biology, and fermentative growth.Experiencein food fermentations, in particular fermented dairy products (cheese, yogurt,etc.) with a focus on microbial starter culture technology.Basicknowledge and experience with molecular biology methodologies desirable:nucleic acid manipulation and sequence analysis with an understanding ofbioinformatics.Experiencecommensurate with a Ph.D. in related field with a minimum of 3 years ofrelevant experience.Demonstratedability to independently design, manage, and perform multi-task projects to asuccessful result.Experiencein project managApply for this job.
