Position Purpose…The purpose of this position is to deliver outstanding service, which exceeds customers’ expectations. The Tax Accountant will partner with Association staff to market tax, accounting and business consulting services to customers and prospects. Perform tax planning and preparation services for individuals, partnerships and corporations. Provide technical support in the delivery of accounting products and services. Be a resource for staff regarding tax and accounting services. Consult with customers on tax and accounting matters. Primary Responsibilities…Perform tax projections and work with customers to develop strategic tax plans in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code requirements and Association policies and procedures.Prepare income tax returns for individual, partnership, and corporate customers with minimal supervision.Gather necessary information from customer via telephone or face-to-face interview to be used for completion of tax services.Actively and aggressively market tax and accounting services by devoting time making sales calls to existing and prospective customers. Make on-farm sales calls with Financial Services Officers as requested.Conduct audit and tax planning services and advise clients regarding effects of business activities on taxes.Ensures that client complies with periodic payment, information reporting, and other taxing authority requirements.Actively up-sell and cross-sell products and make referrals to other GreenStone sales staff.Establish ongoing prospecting plans and activities and pursue referrals from other GreenStone staff.Gather information and build customer relationships by listening to their needs, identifying latent needs and providing solutions or alternatives.Perform monthly payroll and accounts payable function for customers either on farm or service bureau using AgManager or Quickbooks.Prepare 1099 forms for customers as necessary.Perform miscellaneous accounting duties for customers as required. Position Requirements… Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. CPA or Enrolled Agent designation.Must pass the Farm Credit Income Tax Certification Exam.5 or more years’ experience in public accounting or tax planning and preparation.Technical experience with individual, partnership and corporate tax returns, tax research and tax software.Experience working with farm business and/or agriculture related business is preferred.Must demonstrate leadership qualities and exhibit initiative.Responsible for continued self-development of technical tax knowledge, business management and interpersonal skills through research and continued professional education.Strong computer skills specifically in Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite (Practice, GoFileRoom, UltraTax, Accounting, Virtual office, NetClient) and QuickBooks.Proficient with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).Up to 50% travel time may be required.
