We are seeking an experienced process chemist to join our research and development team to develop novel veterinary small molecule therapeutics. This position will require a highly motivated and independent leader with a strong track record of teamwork and innovation in small molecule chemical process development. Position Responsibilities: * Lead the chemistry effort and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to advance projects from lead candidate to commercial process technical transfer. * Identify synthetic routes to new molecules using extensive synthetic knowledge and effective literature searching. * Apply experience and hands-on skills to select and develop innovative commercial processes which are safe, robust, economical, and environmentally responsible. * In collaboration with engineering and analytical groups, oversee the scale-up of pilot scale batches of intermediates and API”s.
* Lead the technology transfer of developed processes to commercial facilities. Prepare technical and regulatory documents. * Identify and implement innovative strategies, tools, and technology for continuous improvement in small molecule process development projects. * Represent the chemistry function on global research project teams for the development of new small molecule therapeutics for veterinary medicine. * Develop constructive relationships with both internal and external global partners and align team goals with organizational objectives. * Coach and mentor chemistry colleagues and provide direction to contractors supporting the function. Desirable Qualifications: * A broad knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and demonstrated experience in conceiving and reducing to practice complex organic syntheses. * Demonstrated ability to develop complex, multistep commercial processes with a track record of successful scale-up campaigns. Experience in technology transfer to a manufacturing facility is a plus. * Good understanding of the drug development process and working knowledge of partner disciplines such as Formulation, Analytical, Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK, in vitro and in vivo Biology * Skilled in analytical techniques (HPLC, LCMS, NMR, etc), and in compound characterization * Experience with automated laboratory reactors, and knowledge of Design of Experiments, QbD, and cGMP * Experience with small molecule IP strategies and filings. * Demonstrated team leadership experience with strong organizational skills to build and manage internal relationships and external vendor collaborations * Effective influencing and oral/written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to project teams, external partners, and management.Education and experience requirements:Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience
