Separations Scientist ? Decatur, IL Research & DevelopmentThis is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:The Separations Scientist will support existing production processes through troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts, and will help develop new processes from bench to pilot demonstration and potentially to commercial scale production by applying core competencies in microfiltration and membrane filtration, ion exchange, resin and carbon adsorption, simulated moving bed chromatography, and other solid/liquid and affinity-based separations technologies.
The Scientist will work within a diverse technical project team, and must build strong relationships with groups in plant operations, business development and R&D. Job Responsibilities: Design and run experiments, including the selection of experimental procedures and analytical methodsDesign, set up, operate, and maintain lab and pilot equipmentMaintain housekeeping and observe safety standards in lab and pilot plantConsolidate, interpret and present data/conclusions/recommendations in both written and oral formatsWork within a diverse team to evaluate, develop, and transfer processes to production Job Requirements: A Bachelor?s degree in a technical field (chemistry or chemical engineering preferred)2-5 years of relevant experienceStrong technical background with various lab and pilot equipment and instrumentationExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsUnderstanding of chemistry, math, physics, biology, materials, and design principlesAbility to handle moderately heavy tools and materials, e.g. pipe wrenches, five gallon buckets, and hand-carting 55 gallon drums Relocation assistance is available with this position.
