We currently have a SmartFarm Process Development Manager position available at our facility in Idaho Falls, ID.
SUMMARYThe purpose of this position is to drive process automation and the development of high level technological solutions for our SmartFarm, business. This position will use a wide range of techniques to develop models and analyses to improve agronomic decision making and assessments. As a key team member, this individual will manage the development of methodologies, processes, techniques and practices; oversee technical support for the implementation of existing technologies, and for the assessment, testing and validation of new processes, analytics and technologies. This manager will direct the utilization and integration of Simplot models and analytics to better estimate and improve land productivity across the Simplot Grower Solutions (SGS) market area; using both large public data sets (such as geospatial soil, weather, and yield data) and proprietary on-farm data generated from our agronomic data platform, Simplot Advisor. RESPONSIBILITIES* Implement big data strategies; focus on centralizing SGS agronomic data. 25%* Design, develop, and own accurate metrics for our long-term expected yield models. 20%* Work in conjunction with the grower, crop advisor and market manager to resolve issues and complaints in a timely and professional manner. 10%* Evaluate new data sources to incorporate into models and build processing pipelines for them when needed. 15%* Work closely with product management, engineering and design teams to understand how users will interact and integrate with our product and models. 10%* Manage GIS work flows and analytical tools. 10%* Train on new data processes and tool sets. 10% REQUIREMENTSEducation:* Bachelor's Degree from 4 year college or universityOther information:3 – 5 years related experience and/or training. Experience with spatial data analysis. Must have strong working knowledge in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), precision agriculture, soil fertility, plant nutrition, pest management, irrigation management. Strong understanding of modern techniques for building models from complex data sets. Mastery of either Python or R for data analysis and model development. Strong Understanding of agriculture / farming practices. Self-guided and independent, able to manage project timelines. Creative problem solving skills. Excellent writing, communication and collaboration skills. Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others effectively; Supervisory experience and skills preferred. Ability to assimilate information from different sources and integrate that into a strategy and executional tactics is critical. Analytical ability to dive into data to construct recommendations and decisions about a specific products and technologies on a strategic level. Extensive knowledge of SmartFarm products and services, including the complex SmartFarm offerings within the multiple SGS areas.Excellent communication skills, formal presentation skills, ability to make site specific input recommendations, ability to display work in writing and statistics, ability to interpret research data and to make reasonable recommendations and able to conduct independent research. Capable of managing multiple priorities at once. Position requires demonstration of technical learning, functional technical skills, action oriented skills, and integrity and trust. Adheres to all standards, policies and systems as appropriate.
