Southern U.S. Product Development Technician – SEEDWAY – South Central Georgia
SEEDWAY, headquartered in Hall, N.Y., markets one of the most extensive and diverse commercial vegetable seed product lines in the industry, sold from the Rocky Mountains to the East coast and in Ontario, Canada. SEEDWAY also offers extensive lines of turf and farm seed. SEEDWAY employees work in locations in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and Florida. SEEDWAY is part of the GROWMARK System, a regional agriculture cooperative serving more than 250,000 customers across North America. (Working areas include: Southern Georgia and Northern Florida.) Preferred location in South Central Georgia. PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT Responsible for evaluating product performance to identify superior marketable products, potential exclusive products, and varieties and cultural recommendations to support marketing programs. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Interacts with Seedway vegetable management team, technicians and salespeople to develop, schedule and report status of projects. Maintains contact with numerous industry personnel including supplier salespersons, product technicians, breeders, customers and produce brokers/buyers to identify new products or market needs. Plans, coordinates and implements trial plan for assigned crops in assigned territory. Visits breeder trials and identifies products to pursue,target,and market. Identifies products to market. Assists with trials at Plant City, FL as needed. Provides technical data including cultural and use recommendations on new products. Identifies market segments with sales growth potential and recommend strategies for growth. Coordinates and follows up on salesman trial efforts to ensure proper reporting and to assist salesman with trial evaluation as needed. Supports down stream marketing initiatives in conjunction with Golden Sun Marketing. Keeps updated on seed treatments and enhancement technologies and advises on utilization. Assists in collecting information to resolve product performance complaints. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Follows GROWMARK s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Normally requires a Bachelor s Degree in Plant Science or Agriculture, or the equivalent thereof, and four years or more of vegetable crop or seed industry related work experience. Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development. Must have and maintain a valid driver s license and satisfactory driving record. Must be able to frequently travel independently and overnight. Must be willing to work hours beyond those considered normal . Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.
