DuPont is currently recruiting foran Applications Development specialist with melt fiber spinning experience forthe Industrial BioSciences-Biomaterials Platform. The Sorona?? businesswithin IB-Biomaterials is currently providing a number of products andestablishing applications using the Sorona?? PTT polymer.  The technical organization is engagedin direct customer interactions, customer problem solving, and applications development.There is a new opportunity in the applications development group at the ExperimentalStation Labs, Wilmington, DE primarily aimed at apparel, industrial and carpetapplications. This position requires a person with melt fiber spinning, polymerprocessing, and polymer/fiber characterization expertise who can work with theregional and global technical/business team. The work done by a successfulcandidate will be focused on understanding the characteristics of the Sorona??polymer in fiber spinning, technical service to customers, building greaterunderstanding of the use of Sorona?? based fiber in downstream applications, andbeing a direct interface with current and new customers globally. Specifically, the individual will be involved in fiber
spinning using internal and external facilities, in assessing the impact
of modifications to the Sorona?? polymer, and in working with customers to
demonstrate process/product capabilities. Additionally, efforts could
include the incorporation of additives into the polymer to produce fibers
that enhance customers??? carpet, apparel or industrial offerings. The successful candidate will come to the position
having knowledge and experience in melt fiber spinning and general polymer
processing. It is expected that they will advance their knowledge further
by learning from experienced technical personnel how to successfully spin Sorona??
fiber from polymer pellets. In this way, we can assist our customers to be
able to create products using Sorona?? polymer within their systems and
equipment. 
The individual in this position will be a guardian for the
knowledge of fiber spinning of Sorona?? in the North American region and
will also work with operations downstream of spinning in carpet and apparel
end uses. The individual should have experience in direct
customer interactions and the ability to work with customers to resolve
issues or establish new capability related to Sorona??. Regular travel to
various customer and partner sites is expected.Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in a scientific or engineering field or
the equivalent level of experience At least 5 years of Industrial experience. (preferred) Knowledge of polymer materials and polymer processing. Fiber spinning expertise Technical service experience Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills Strong writing and communication skills in English Experienced with effectively interfacing with customers
in both a one-on-one setting as well as interactions with larger
groups Ability to be effective in a growing, dynamic, and
changing business environment Additional Skills Sought: Knowledge of fiber spinning of various polymers especially
PET and nylon.
Knowledge of processing of melt polymer materials and
combinations Understanding of downstream applications such as
apparel and carpets
Overall understanding of the processing into finished
fabrics and carpets (ie knitting, weaving, tufting, etc.) is desirable Additional Information: The individual in this position will need to travel amoderate amount, including possible travel in A/P and to EMEA.
