Cargill Protein Group is a leader at delivering primary processed and value added proteins into the Foodservice, Retail and Ingredient market channels. It operates several food processing facilities located in the US and Canada. Our customers in Foodservice are comprised of large national restaurant chain operators, contract feeding companies and both national and regional foodservice distributors. Our Retail customers are comprised of primarily large national grocery retailers and warehouse clubs. Our Ingredient customers are comprised of large branded manufacturers of retail consumer packaged goods. The customers from these channels are attracted to working with Cargill because of our demonstrated leadership in delivering innovative products, integrity, operational excellence, food safety and risk management. The Sustainability Manager is responsible for the development and execution of sustainability strategy, programs and solutions to create differentiating opportunities with Cargill Protein Group?s customers and suppliers. The position will require excellent people skills to allow the Sustainability Manager to work across Cargill, our customers, our supply chain, the agricultural community, and NGOs. This position will also require effective verbal and written communication skills to ensure that we can tell our story effectively within our organizations and to the broader public. This position will be based in either Wichita, KS or Minneapolis, MNPrincipal Accountabilities
40% Manage sustainability projects for the Protein Group. Work directly with customers, customer account teams, our marketing team, our business operations and supply chain (BOSC) team, corporate functions and NGOs to drive project execution. ?
35% Identify opportunities for Cargill Protein Group to help our customers meet their sustainability goals and for the Protein Group to secure and/or grow our business and meet our financial objectives. Provide guidance and sustainability expertise to our customer account teams. Help the Protein Group define sustainability, identify and prioritize strategic options for sustainable products/solutions, build internal capabilities and identify ways to create value. Strategies should take into account emerging customer needs, reputational and operational risks, industry trends, and Cargill?s corporate sustainability goals. ?
15% Represent the Protein Group and Cargill on multi-stakeholder industry initiatives such as the Midwest Row Crop Collaborative or U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. Participate in Cargill?s Sustainability Practitioner?s Group. ?
10% Assist the Protein Group Marketing and Communications teams, and work with Cargill?s Corporate Communications teams, in the development of sustainability-related reports and communication to more effectively tell the story of sustainability within our business and our supply chains. Skills:
5+ years of professional experience in sustainability or a related field
Familiarity with issues and trends animal agriculture and/or food industry
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Practical business acumen and capacity to assess sustainability issues, risks and opportunities in a business context
Creative thinker, effective problem solver
Ability to comprehend markets/marketing/customer insight topics
Demonstrated project management skills
Ability to interact effectively and build trust and credibility with producers, customers, NGOs, Industry Associations
Strong networking skills, ability to influence and enlist support from others outside of core team
25-30% travel will be required? Preferred
Experience in the animal agriculture and/or food industry
Experience working within NGO and/or civil society sectors
Familiarity with existing sustainability and chain of custody schemes/certification
Customer or client account management experience
