Swine Genetic Complex Manager
SummaryResponsible for the overall leadership, direction and supervision of a world class nucleus complex. Directs and coordinates all activities specifically associated with a state of the art filtered nucleus sow farm, nursery and finishing test site, and truck wash within the multi-site complex. Oversee employees in all phases of the operation and maintain the building sites by performing the duties listed below. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Operate a 1,200-sow batch farrow site, gilt isolation, 3,750 nursery and finishing test site, and internal truck washProvides a quality product to the farm’s customers and promotes genetic progress by maximizing production efficiencies while adhering to polices related to genetic data collection protocolManages financial performance by controlling costs, budgeting, business and financial planning, and tracking financial activity via reviews with Swine Business ManagementOversee training and development of employees, including all associated documentation and delegates work assignmentsEnsures that all policies and procedures set forth by management companiesIdentifies and resolves problems in a timely manner with both livestock and employeesBalances team and individual responsibilities, puts success of the team above own interests and supports everyone’s efforts to succeedManage, coach, and mentor staff and ensure an inclusive, positive work environment is maintained at all timesApproaches others in a tactful manner, reacts professionally in pressure situations, treats others with respect and considerationEstablishes and maintains open communication with all farm staff, management, external customers and suppliers, and HR managementEnsure team follows all biosecurity, animal welfare and environmental policiesUtilizes data systems including but not limited to: PigKnows, Ingris, Farmwise and completes all paperwork required for a genetic nucleus site (feed orders, HR requirements, data recording, and technical and production reports).Understands business implications of decisions and contributes to profits/revenue of the farmPlans, sets, and monitors goals and communicates results with Swine Business Management Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises a total of 10-15 employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the system’s employees and overall management functions. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training of employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.Apply for this job.
