Maintains control systems to insure that all filings and payments are accurate, timely, and reflect the proper amounts payable to the taxing authority.??SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHP?Supervises, leads, and develops the Tax Compliance Coordinator and the Tax Compliance Specialist.? Leads others in the business in understanding tax laws necessary for compliance.?ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS?Oversees the preparation of motor fuel, environmental, and sales tax returns and tax payments for GROWMARK and subsidiary companies related to foreign and domestic operations.??Provides guidance to Energy Accounting to ensure correct billing and recording of motor fuel taxes.?Directs the reconciliation of all financial accounts for all motor fuel, environmental, and sales taxes.?Maintains knowledge of SAP and external tax software functionality and data to identify the causes of problems, and evaluate related tax and accounting results.? Investigates and makes changes to configuration, master data, profiles, and scenarios to reflect business and tax law changes.??Supports testing of system or process changes to ensure effective implementation.?Reviews tax department return preparation and reconciliation processes to optimize performance, making recommendations for and supporting process reengineering efforts. Plans and executes needed updates or modifications to electronic filing and control systems.?Maintains tax knowledge related to motor fuel, excise, sales, environmental, and other taxes.? Provides accurate research on tax issues for GROWMARK and our members/customers.??Functions as a liaison between the tax department, divisions, members/customers, GROWMARK IT, and other GROWMARK departments regarding tax compliance.?Manages response to audits by taxing authorities related to motor fuel, environmental, and sales tax returns.?OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS?Maintains professional relationships with taxing authorities.?Responds to tax information requests from GROWMARK employees, subsidiary employees, vendors, and member cooperatives.?Responsible for developing skill levels and expanding the use of SAP and query software by others.?Follows GROWMARK?s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply.?Performs all other duties as assigned.?REQUIREMENTS?Normally requires a college degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, or equivalent and at least 3-5 years of related experience to demonstrate the ability to provide tax, process analysis, and compliance leadership to others.?Ability to understand specialized tax regulations for motor fuel, environmental, and sales taxes and having the ability to apply tax knowledge to the transactions to determine appropriate taxability and ensure tax compliance.?Prefer a CPA, MBA or related expertise to demonstrate advanced accounting/business knowledge.?Understanding and experience with accounting-related areas including internal controls, business operation and process analysis, billing system controls and analysis, master data structure, accounting information systems, policies and procedures, risk, business ethics, and compliance.?Ability to occasionally work hours above those considered normal to meet tax deadlines.?Prefer supervisory experience including staffing, coaching, performance evaluation and the ability to achieve results through others.?Proven professional communication, interpersonal, persuasion, and customer service skills.?Demonstrated planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.?Proven team building skills and the ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.?Proven computer skills including spreadsheet, database, and query tools, the ability to understand the capabilities of third party accounting and information systems, and the ability to use technology to enhance business processes, facilitate analysis, and foster effective business decisions.?Demonstrates essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.?Must have and maintain a valid driver?s license and have the ability to travel independently and overnight if necessary.?Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK?s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position.?We are an equal opportunity employer, including protected veterans and qualified individuals with disabilities.
