Manage personnel and operational needs within the area of responsibility to ensure production of efficacious, safe, and high quality products in a Lean manner, while maintaining a safe and accident free environment. Promote and achieve an environment of high colleague engagement, decision-making, and support/development. Provide leadership and clear/concise communication inside and outside of their area of responsibility.
Position ResponsibilitiesIn addition to the summary above, ensure all group functions meet Corporate, APHIS, GMP, and EU quality aseptic standards and are in compliance with departmental SOPs. Provide leadership and accountability to meet production schedules, and financial commitments. Ensure proper training for colleagues and facilities are operated in a safe, environmentally acceptable manner. Reduce quality and safety incidents to targeted levels. Ensure objectives and goals are clearly understood by all department personnel. Investigate process excursions/deviations and production issues utilizing Right First Time (RFT) tools to ensure corrective actions are identified and implemented to eliminate the root cause of the problem. Initiate and implement ideas to improve production process reliability from the standpoint of quality, safety, and product cost. Assist in the planning and implementation of capital, personnel, and operating budgets. Assist with technical projects within areas of responsibility. Takes the manufacturing lead role in the coordination, document preparation, and introduction of new production processes as well as site to site transfers to Biological and/or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing. Maintains state of the art competence on technological developments within area of responsibility and recommends equipment and/or process enhancements that will provide improved efficiencies, safety, and a competitive advantage. Education and ExperienceRequired * Minimum of B.A./B.S. in science related degree or equivalent experience. * Minimum of 5 years biological and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience * Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated knowledge of operations, scientific, technical, business and leadership principles within Zoetis.Preferred 7+ years experience in APHIS, GMP, and EU regulations. Prior management of 10+ employee operation. Technical Skills and Competencies * Skilled in leading work group”s or team”s as well as cross-functional teams. * Skilled in analyzing complex issues. * Experience in budget preparation and support. * Strong communications skills (oral and written) with skilled abilities to interact with and positively influence internal and external work groups. * Strong commitment to product quality, customer service, and continuous improvement.
* Ability to resolve technical issues, troubleshoots manufacturing processes, and investigates process deviations/excursions.
* Understands and displays competence in all leader behaviors. Skilled in leading, supervising, training, and motivating employees to meet defined objectives and daily production schedules. * Demonstrated ability to represent work groups or team”s interest with higher management and related work groups (i.e. Materials Mgmt., HR, QA/QC, EMU, EHS, and VMRD).
* Proficient in PC applications. * Knowledge of 9CFR and EU regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). * Technical knowledge and/or expertise in microbiological techniques, media preparation, sterilization, and validation principles * In-depth knowledge and application of SOPs, cGMPs, OSHA regulations and other regulations pertinent to area. * Strong experience in APHIS and VMD regulations.

Good knowledge of statistical applications and evaluation of data.

Prior Lean methods training.

Technical knowledge and expertise in their area of responsibility of biological products.
*
Certified in RFT M1 (yellow belt) or M2 (green belt) preferred. * Training in leadership and management techniques consistent with Zoetis Core Values and leadership competencies. * Performance rating category must be reflective of continuous strong performance over 3+ years. Physical Position Requirements * Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs. * May be exposed to temperature variations, and may work in noisy and unconditioned areas. * Prolonged standing, crouching, sitting, walking and climbing may be part of the candidate”s daily routine.
