The person hired into this position will be expected to provide technical expertise in the areas of toxicology, animal nutrition, and/or food allergy as applied to the safety assessments of agricultural biotechnology products; contribute to individual projects working in multi-disciplinary product development teams to obtain the cultivation and import approvals of genetically modified food and feed crop varieties; direct studies internally, and manage studies placed externally at CROs, to enable regulatory submissions according to project plans; ensure sound data interpretation and reporting to develop and deliver safety and technical positions to support projects and submissions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Contribute to product development projects, so that they are properly specified, reviewed, conducted, and delivered on time and meet stakeholder needs.
Manage a broad range of studies ranging from in silico analyses conducted internally to in vivo toxicology and feeding studies conducted at CROs.
Ensure delivery of quality results and sound interpretation by collaborating with other with scientists in Toxicology & Health Science as well as other functions such as global and regional registration and business teams.
Give presentations at internal meetings to enable scientific and business decisions.
Influence the development of technical and techno-regulatory strategies and project work plans via involvement in multi-disciplinary project meetings. Seek out latest developments in the area of food and feed risk assessment and, in consultation with other technical experts, assesses their potential impact and use.
Rapidly assimilate study and project information in order to make a significant positive and early contribution to studies and products.
Develop a deep working knowledge of the genetically modified traits and plant-incorporated protectants in the Syngenta portfolio to provide expert advice and guidance to Syngenta regulatory affairs and project teams.
Contribute to the scientific literature and conferences to influence strategic direction and promote science-based decision making.Skills:
A PhD in a relevant discipline, such as biology, physiology, toxicology or closely related field, is preferred.
Applicants with BS or MS degrees and commensurate experience will be considered.
This position demands wide-ranging knowledge of biotechnology, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry, combined with an in-depth understanding of animal physiology or toxicology.
Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of experimental design and data analysis.
Experience in making initial interpretations of complex datasets and integrating data across disciplines for the purpose of risk assessment.
Experience or appreciation of the purpose and conduct of bioinformatics analyses, molecular biology, biochemistry, nutrition, toxicology and allergy.Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:
