Technical Service Representative

 The technical service position interacts directly with customers and develops a solid working relationship with them, especially at the technical level, and liaison back with many parts of the business including, sales, marketing, technical, product management, quality, and production.  Collection and analysis of data is required both for customer projects and support as well as for internal technical programs related to improving the value propositions of 1,3 propanediol.  The sales analysis and other back-office activities require proficiency with CRM systems, spreadsheets, quality systems/processes and excellent problem solving skills. This broad range of responsibility will provide the selected candidate the opportunity to quickly learn the DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products commercial business.  DTL is a fast paced, growing business that will allow the successful candidate to make a significant impact while further developing their customer, technical, and business skills. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Sales while also working closely with other members of the global Marketing & Sales team as well as the Product Director located in Loudon, TN.  Travel is requirements are estimated at ~30% and will primarily be in North America with some potential travel to Europe.  The preferred location for this new position is at our Loudon, TN business headquarters and production facility (close to Knoxville, TN).   CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESThe position requires an entrepreneurial, self-managed individual who is interested in participating on the leading edge of industrial biotech.  This position directly supports and interfaces with several functions within our business including:  direct sales and channel partners at the customer interface, marketing, product management, quality, technology and applications development. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collecting end-use performance data, from customers, outside labs or internal sources and leveraging it for technical reports, papers, and sales toolsCollecting analytical information to address quality concerns or issuesRepresenting DuPont in external Standards Committees or Industry Committees that involve the use and specifications of our productsAnswering customer complaints, and assisting customers with resolving problemsAssisting product management and R&D personnel in the development of next generation products based on a knowledge of customer needsProduct stewardship and first order process- related activities for our products Developing and/or maintaining technical bulletins, reports and technical literature Qualifications:BS/MS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering. Polymer or emulsion chemistry experiences a plus. The minimum work experience preferred is five years.  Strong adherence to DuPont core valuesGood interpersonal relationship skills Demonstrated written and oral skills; ability to articulate information/ideas in an organized wayAbility to work well with colleagues at all levels while maintaining a respectful work environmentSelf-motivated, with strong organizational skills to independently complete tasksSix Sigma green belt certification a plusPreferred Skills:Work experience in technical service, business, sales, or marketing functionInterested in technical service or sales as a next career goalUnderstands how businesses operate; good business acumen Combines commercial knowledge and technical skills to conceptualize, design and attract new sales opportunitiesCan design and execute technical projects efficiently to develop, test and enhance value propositions or solve customer application problemsSkilled in computer applications (MS Office including excel)Networks with other technical professionals inside and outside DuPont, able to communicate and interact at the customer level.Demonstrated excellence in time management skills, project management, delivering against critical operating tasks, accelerated timelines and working independently.Excellent communication skills (oral and written)Consistently delivers results in technical successes, customer solutions & projectsExperience in a range of markets is a plus including: cosmetics, personal care, HI&I, functional fluids, polymers and polyurethanes.
