Technical Services Manager (West)

LOCATION: This position will service the West Coast and will be based out of a home office?Position Purpose?The Territory Technical Services Manager position is accountable for understanding strategy, assessing needs, building relationships and proactively providing solutions for customers with significant business impact to Cargill. Involves regular site visits with the customer. Provides technical support and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration or enhancement of company products, process and systems. Utilizes knowledge across multiple specialties to resolve problems, troubleshoot and modify product to customer requirements. Work may be done at customer site and/or at the Cargill Application Centers/Technical Services Labs. Customer training typically delivered in person. Manages a broad portfolio for strategic customers involving projects requiring new ingredients/new application technology. May be assigned to lead/champion portfolio for at least one region, category and specialty.Principal Accountabilities50% Partners with Business Unit (BU) Sales/Commercial teams to acquire new business from potential customers with significant business impact. Directly interacts with the customer?s Technology Leadership to understand the business strategy and assess the needs of the customer. Supports Sales / Commercial Teams by providing product, application/ ingredient/ processing expertise, sharing intimate knowledge of the customers? business strategy and processes, providing insight to customer needs and competitor comparisons. Champions Cargill Sweetener/Starches/Texturizers North America (CSSTNA) ingredient portfolio for the western region, in addition to customer accounts (provides input to strategy in relation to new or existing ingredients, understands total ingredient matrix, interaction of the ingredients and relation to application by the customer).25% Proactively identify customer solutions and new ways that Cargill can create value for the customer. Acts as primary technical contact for western regional Customer Accounts with significant business impact.? Builds and maintains a solid understanding of their business strategy, in order to proactively identify new ingredients/ formulation/ product opportunities, specific to their needs.? Identifies opportunities across all Cargill businesses.? Grows incremental contribution margin to meet agreed targets.? Represents Cargill in relevant external groups to appropriately influence external experts and customers on Cargill opinions as well as product strategy.15% Identifies and qualifies projects per business strategy, providing project oversight for strategic customers. Provides project follow-up on behalf of the customer (level 1A and 1 projects). Works directly with Cargill?s internal experts to ensure projects are completed and issues are resolved. Independently troubleshoots problems, utilizing deep knowledge in one or more fields AND wide knowledge across multiple specialties. Works directly with Research, Development, Applications and Commercial QA team on behalf of the customer.10% Presents project proposals for new application, formulation, and product directly to the customer. Independently, or with support from internal experts, creates and delivers specialized training, documents, specifications and prototypes. Provides coaching and facilitates knowledge transfer to other team members. Provides insights to customers on legislation and regulation related to food, food safety and health claims. As well as any other duties as assigned.Skills:
Required Qualifications?Bachelor?s Degree in applicable area of science (Biology, Microbiology, Food
Science, Chemistry)Minimum 5 years food industry experience in technical service,
applications, research, development or related field.Excellent listening and communication skills with above average
presentation skills.Ability to explain complex technical information in an easy to
understand manner and solve problems.Strong desire to cultivate customer relationships and build trust
through demonstrated technical knowledge.Highly motivated, self-starter with excellent organizational, priority
setting and time management skills.Highly effective interpersonal skills and peer relationships with
ability to work as a member of a cross-functional team.Ability to work with minimum supervision, and a
passion for continued development.Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment.Ability to manage multiple priorities.Strong attention to detail.Microsoft Office Suite experience.Ability to work in a team environment.Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skillsAbility to travel up to 60%.?Preferred Qualifications?Master?s Degree in applicable area of science (Biology, Microbiology, Food
Science, Chemistry)Minimum 8 years of food industry experience in technical service,
applications, research, development or related field.Knowledge corn sweeteners, polyols, dry corn ingredients, stevia including
ingredient applications.K
