Technical Sustainability Manager
Position Purpose Cargill Protein Group is a leader at delivering primary processed and value added proteins into the Foodservice, Retail and Ingredient market channels. It operates several food processing facilities located in the US and Canada. Our customers in Foodservice are comprised of large national restaurant chain operators, contract feeding companies and both national and regional foodservice distributors. Our Retail customers are comprised of primarily large national grocery retailers and warehouse clubs. Our Ingredient customers are comprised of large branded manufacturers of retail consumer packaged goods. The customers from these channels are attracted to working with Cargill because of our demonstrated leadership in delivering innovative products, integrity, operational excellence, food safety and risk management. The Technical Sustainability Manager is responsible for the development and execution of sustainability strategy, programs and solutions to create differentiating opportunities with Cargill Protein Group?s customers and suppliers. The position will require strong technical skills and analytical abilities as well as people skills to allow the Technical Sustainability Manager to work across Cargill, our customers, our supply chain, the agricultural community, and NGOs. Responsibilities will include analysis to understand the footprint/impact of our operations and supply chains on human and natural resources including but not limited to climate change, water and sustainable agriculture. This position will be based in either Wichita, KS or Minneapolis, MNPrincipal Accountabilities
25% Work with the Protein Group?s business operations and supply chain (BOSC) team to develop and deploy sustainability key performance indicators and metrics for our operations and supply chains. Support measuring and monitoring of sustainability performance metrics. Implement and deploy tools, processes and measures that can help the Protein Group ensure and operate responsible / sustainable supply chains. ?
20% Identify opportunities for the Protein Group to help our customers meet their sustainability goals and for the Protein Group to secure and/or grow our business and meet our financial objectives. Provide guidance and sustainability expertise to our customer account teams. Help the Protein Group define sustainability, identify and prioritize strategic options for sustainable products/solutions, build internal capabilities and identify ways to create value. Strategies should take into account emerging customer needs, reputational and operational risks, industry trends, emerging technologies and Cargill?s corporate sustainability goals. ?
20% Support development and execution of customer projects related to sustainability. Provide technical guidance and support to Cargill Protein Group sustainability team members, marketing teams and customer account teams. Help strengthen the Protein Group?s submissions to customer RFPs by providing relevant sustainability information that can help differentiate us from our competition. ?
20% Lead analysis and research on climate, natural resource and/or sustainability impacts aligned with the Protein Group?s sustainability strategy and business plans. ?
10% Represent the Protein Group and Cargill on multi-stakeholder industry initiatives such as the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. Participate in Cargill?s Sustainability Practitioner?s Group. ?
5% Assist the Protein Group Marketing and Communications teams, and work with Cargill?s Corporate Communications teams, in the development of sustainability-related reports and communication to more effectively tell the story of sustainability within our business and our supply chains. Skills:
Bachelor?s degree in engineering or science based field?
5+ years of professional experience in sustainability or a related field?
Familiarity with issues and trends animal agriculture and/or food industry?
Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual skills.?
Ability to synthesize information to identify trends and findings?
Familiarity with greenhouse gas accounting?
Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?
Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills?
Practical business acumen and capacity to assess sustainability issues, risks and opportunities in a business context?
Creative thinker, effective problem solver?
Strong networking skills, ability to influence and enlist support from others outside of core team?
25% travel will be required. Preferred
Experience in the animal agriculture and/or food industry?
Experience with greenhouse gas accounting?
Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?
Familiarity with sustainability / chain of custody certification schemes.?
