Variety Development Manager (Food Group-Boise, ID)

We currently have a Variety Development Manager position available at our Food Group location in Boise, ID.
Summary Under general supervision applies appropriate methodologies, techniques and practices to research and develop new potato varieties for use into existing and new potato products, to improve raw quality, which result in more efficient factory operations, better finished product quality and safety, reduced raw storage losses and, ultimately, improved customer satisfaction, as well as new potato product development in North America and supports International operations. Develops, integrates, maintains, perpetuates, and coordinates potato variety development efforts using management and supervisory personnel within the department, as well as industry personnel. Contributes and achieves desired results by working across all company, department and plant functional areas and utilizing cross-functional teams. Designs and implements potato variety development programs to ensure good quality and adequate raw potato supplies for plant needs. This position directly oversees the North American Food Group variety development program and supports International variety development. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Raw Development and Sustainability.
This position works with and acts as a liaison with potato breeders, breeding programs, universities, extension personnel, government agencies, industry councils, private researchers, private industry and individuals to guide and influence potato variety development.
Assures adequate seed supply of developing varieties for small plot and commercial trials in North America.
This position provides technical support to the field department staff, growers and industry by providing training, education materials and consulting on established and newly released potato varieties.
This position coordinates and facilitates the variety approval process for the Raw Procurement department with plant operations, QA, sales and marketing
This position conducts and coordinates potato variety trials in cooperation with the Agronomy Managers to evaluate and develop new varieties that have superior characteristics to existing varieties for existing products, specialty products and new products.
This position coordinates with the Technical Center on processing the trial varieties through the batch and pilot process lines for processing and sensory acceptance.
This position supervises the management of the North American Food Group research storage at the Caldwell Campus.
This position works cooperatively with other business units (Agribusiness, Plant Sciences, SAPL, Technical Center, Land and Livestock) on variety research projects.
Bachelor's Degree from 4 year college or university.
Five plus years related experience and/or training.
Strong mathematical, verbal and written communication skills.
Leadership, Coaching, Participative Management Style, Development of Subordinates.
Planning, Organizing, Directing, Goal Setting, Controlling, Self-Development, Decision Making, Professional Appearance and presentation skills.
Combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered for this position.
