Windfall Wheat Research Scientist – Breeder
The scientist will be responsible for the development of a Soft Red Winter (SRW) varietal breeding program working with the team of wheat scientists and various colleagues in Plant Breeding and the larger Corteva Research organization. The breeding program will be focused on delivering genetic gain through varieties that meet the needs of our customers and our business. The scientist will be expected to help develop and use a full suite of available technologies to accelerate the rate of genetic gain and build a sustainable breeding program. Establish a breeding and genetics program that delivers superior SRW germplasm which provides performance improvements consistent with product development objectives.“Hands-on” utilization of enabling breeding technologies in the implementation of the breeding program including precision phenotyping, molecular breeding, and information management.Collaborate with internal scientific partners in the identification of key breeding targets, strategies and tools including the development and application of molecular markers and other technologies to enhance the breeding process.Develop partnerships with the wheat breeding team and other colleagues in the development of strategies to deliver varietal wheat with superior performance in a cost effective manner.Facilitate information flow among wheat team members and other parts of the organization as necessary.Interact with colleagues outside Corteva as required with emphasis on key universities.Works under limited administrative/strategic direction.Scientific leadership which ensures the collection of high quality phenotypic data.Contributes to leadership aspects of the Research Center activities through the following o Compliance with Core Values and business/regulatory requirementso Clear communication with other scientists and staff as required for the success of all center activitiesQualifications: PhD in plant breeding or plant genetics, with an emphasis in the areas of genetics and molecular genetics.An independent, highly motivated, and self-directed scientist is required.Comprehensive knowledge and applied research experience in plant genetics or plant breeding.Strong verbal and written communication skills and a proven ability to work well in a team environment.Experience or familiarity with molecular breeding methods.Experience with field research processes and phenotypic data analyses and utilization.Strong organizational skills to plan and coordinate experiments across locations and abilities to effectively share results across the organization are required.Excellent personal interaction skills required for effectively developing strong internal and external working relationships with a diverse group of people.We seek unique leaders who are strongly motivated by the desire to solve scientific questions; who are highly skilled quantitative scientists that excel at deeply investigating phenotypic and genetic information; and who can deliver results in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Must be able to work in varying ergonomic environments including field activities such as planting, harvest, sampling, and data collection.At Corteva Agriscience™, we seek to enrich the lives of those who produce and those who consume.
