Primary Location: United States (US) – Iowa (US-IA) – Ames Function: Product EngineeringTitle: Year-Round Intern – HTFD Intern – Ames, IA – 48588 Your ResponsibilitiesDeere equipment, combines, sugar cane harvesters, etc., use airflow to clean and convey crop and other material in the machines. You will work on modeling the interaction between air and crop material using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element modeling (DEM).You will model the aerodynamics of particles (crop) to predict lift and drag. Explore using the approaches being developed at ISU, for instance immersogeometric analysis. This project work will help Deere improve the accuracy of our models and thus increase the performance of our machines.You will use CFD and DEM to support ongoing projects in wear prediction, automated modeling, and wind tunnel tests. What It TakesInterest in numerical methods and computer simulationExperience with CFD or DEM analysis tools or other simulation tools (for example Fluent, Star CCM+, Open FOAM, EDEM, LIGGGHTS, or others)Ideal Background: Graduate student, experience with advanced simulation methods like immersogeometric analysis; Background in aerodynamics or fluid dynamicsInterest in numerical methods and computer simulationEngineering student in Mechanical, Aero, or Agricultural EngineeringMust be registered as a full-time student at Iowa State UniversityMust be able to commute to the work location on a daily basisCumulative GPA of 2.8/3.0 or above16 – 20 hours/week during the academic year35 – 40 hours/week during the summer semester What You'll GetAt John Deere, you are empowered to create a career that will take you to where you want to go.
